Nurse’s week is celebrated during May (the week of Florence Nightingale’s birthday).

Florence Nightingale is known as the founder of nursing – during her pioneering work and achievements during the Crimean War (1853-1856).

To many, Florence Nightingale, who planned activity as a necessary supportive measure for wounded soldiers of the 1854 Crimean War, is considered the “mother” of hospital recreation. Establishing soldiers’ clubs, reading rooms, recreation rooms, and providing for attendance at concerts and lectures, her primary interest in recreation seems to have been its contribution to morale.

Here is a Recreational Therapy – advocacy tip

Send a greeting card to each nurse at your facility. Be sure to sign the card – from the recreational therapy department and be sure to point out that Florence Nightingale is one of the pioneers in recreational therapy as well.
